Our 3-Step Process
Your message is the most important part of the animation, so we begin with scriptwriting.
We’ll write yours in-house, and you’ll get it as a Word document you can comment on directly, so feedback is simple and nothing gets lost in email. We draw on 13 years of writing scripts for animation.
Once the script is approved, we record the voiceover. Casting and recording happen in-house, so you don’t have to hire or manage anyone else. We keep a roster of voice actors and our rates are highly competitive, and it’s all included in your project budget.
We also create a few still frames. These are high level concept images that show you the overall aesthetic of the animation before anything moves. It’s your chance to react to the look early, when changes are easy and cost nothing.
Production starts with illustration. We take the approved still frames and your approved script, and turn them into scenes.
The result is a polished storyboard with a high quality illustration for every line of your script, so you can see the whole video before a single frame moves.
Once you approve the storyboard, we begin animating each scene. This is where the motion happens: characters move, text appears, and the story starts to play out against the voiceover.
Post-production is where everything gets polished. We colour the animation, add music, and add sound effects where the story needs them.
Then we master the whole thing so it plays as one cohesive video. You get a finished file ready for your website, your social channels, or wherever the video needs to live.

Frequently Asked Questions
2D animation in Vancouver is priced by the length of the finished video, starting at $3,500 CAD for 30 seconds. A 60-second explainer costs more than a 30-second one, and a two-minute video more again, because every second is animated scene by scene.
Style is the other driver. Simple 2D with flat graphics and clean motion sits at the lower end. Custom illustrated characters and detailed character acting cost more. Tell us your budget and we’ll show you what’s achievable at that length and style.
Most 2D animation projects take 4 to 6 weeks from the first call to the final file. The time is split across stages: scriptwriting & voiceover, illustration & animation, then colour, sound, and mastering.
If you have a hard deadline, tell us at the first call and we’ll build a work-back schedule to ensure it gets completed on time.
Your approvals set the pace more than our production time does. Each stage waits for your sign-off before the next one starts, which helps us remain within scope. We’ve found that projects move more efficiently when one person is responsible for feedback, who can collate notes from your team or committee, so that we can complete all changes in one session.
2D animation is drawn and moved on a flat plane. Characters, icons, and text move up, down, and across the frame, and every scene is illustrated before it’s animated. 3D animation instead builds objects as models in space, lights them, and renders them so a camera can move around them.
2D costs less and suits most explainer videos, because the strength of an explainer is clarity, not realism. It also handles abstract ideas better, since a drawing can show a concept that doesn’t physically exist, e.g. a process, a risk, a set of numbers.
It’s the faster of the two to revise as well, because changing a scene means quickly redrawing elements rather than rebuilding and re-rendering a model.
Yes. Both are included, and both happen in-house. The script is the most important part of any animation, so we write it for you and submit it as a Word document you can comment on directly. We draw on 13 years of writing scripts for animation; and we love writing them!
Voiceover casting and recording are also handled in-house. We keep a roster of voice actors and our rates are highly competitive, so you don’t need to hire or manage anyone separately. You’ll hear options and choose the voice that fits your brand before we record.
If you already have a script or a recorded voice, that’s fine too. We can offer script consultation and ensure your script is best translated for a 2D explainer video.
Between 30 and 90 seconds is ideal. Past that, attention drops and the message gets harder to keep simple. An explainer works because it says one thing clearly, and length is usually what breaks that.
If you have more to cover than 90 seconds allows, the better approach is a series of shorter animated videos, each explaining one idea. That also gives you more to post, and lets you send the right piece to the right audience instead of one long video to everyone. Shorter pieces are easier to update later, too, since you only rebuild the segment that changed.
That said, we can accommodate whatever your project needs. Some training and educational videos genuinely require more time, and we build those too.
Send us your brand guide and your logo files. Those set the colours, fonts, and overall look, so the animation matches the rest of your marketing. If you have a brand guide in progress rather than a finished one, that works too, and we can work from the colours and fonts you already use.
Visual references help a lot as well. Anything you’ve seen and liked, even from another industry, tells us more than a written description can. If you don’t have references, that’s not a problem. We have a large portfolio of 2D animation work and we’re happy to send you examples to review, which is often the fastest way to find the style you want.
