UpMedia produces fully modelled 3D animation for product, technical, and brand videos in Vancouver, BC.
Since 2013, UpMedia has used fully modelled 3D animation to show products, processes, and places that cannot be filmed.
3D Product Animation
Your product turned, opened, and shown from the inside.
Technical and Process Animation
Invisible processes made visible, from hydrogen molecules to HVAC airflow.
3D Environments
Storefronts Warhouses, and landscapes built from scratch when filming isn't possible.

We were looking for a video that uses 2D and 3D animation to showcase our innovative technology. UpMedia made us an amazing video that we’ve been able to use in our trade shows to attract new attention to our brand. I definitely recommend UpMedia for your video production needs!

Our 3-Step Process
Pre-Production starts with a discovery call where we learn about your industry, target demographic, and your unique offering. With those elements we begin writing your script. We write your script in-house and send it as a Word document you can comment on directly.
Once it’s approved, we record the voiceover. Casting and recording happen in-house, so you don’t have to hire or manage anyone.
Once we have the foundation for your video, we move into the next stage.
We create every object and environment required as a fully modelled 3D asset, then texture it so surfaces read correctly: metal, plastic, cardboard, glass, water. If you already have CAD files or product models, we’ll happily work from those.
Next, we’ll move into Blocking, which means setting up the camera positions in 3D space to get the best composition.
Finally, we begin animation of objects and camera movement. Here is where the motion plays out with the voiceover.
Lighting decides how real the animation feels, and rendering turns each scene into final frames.
This is the longest stage of a 3D project and the one we plan the schedule around. After the video is fully rendered, we add music, sound effects, and colour, then master the video so it plays as one finished piece.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most 3D animation projects at UpMedia start between $9,000 and $15,000 CAD.
What moves the number is how much has to be built. A single product, animated from CAD files you already have, sits at the lower end. A video with several custom environments, multiple products, and characters sits higher, because every object in the frame has to be modelled, textured, and lit from scratch.
Length matters less than you’d expect. A 60 second video with twelve unique environments costs more than a 3 minute video that reuses one. When we quote, we price the build more than the runtime.
We give you a fixed quote after the discovery call, once we know what’s in the script. No hourly billing, and no surprises partway through.
A typical 3D animation project takes 6 to 10 weeks from the discovery call to the final deliverable.
Pre-production usually runs two weeks, covering the discovery call, scriptwriting, your revisions, and the voiceover recording. Production takes the largest amount of time. Post-production runs two to three weeks.
If you have a strict deadline, let us know on an intro call, and we will create a clear work-back schedule that will allow us to meet your launch date!
Yes. This is one of the strongest reasons to choose 3D over filming. If your product exists as a design, a drawing, or a CAD file, we can build it and show it working before a single unit is made. Companies use this for investor decks, trade show screens, pre-order campaigns, and sales conversations that need to happen well before launch.
3D also lets you show what a camera physically can’t. We’ve animated hydrogen particles moving through a fuel cell, and built storefronts, warehouses, and a bamboo forest for a packaging company that needed to show a supply chain nobody could film.
If the product changes before launch, we can update the animation rather than reshoot it.
No. We can model your product entirely from scratch, working from photographs, drawings, spec sheets, or a physical sample. Expect the cost to be higher when we do, because building an accurate model from nothing is a significant part of the work.
If you already have CAD files or 3D models, we’re happy to work with them. We can often work directly from what your engineering or design team has already built, which reduces work in the modelling stage and brings the price down.
Accuracy matters to us. If your product has a real dimension, a real mechanism, or a real material, the animation should reflect it.
Choose 3D when the thing you need to show can’t be put in front of a camera. That covers products that don’t exist yet, processes that happen at a molecular or mechanical scale, cutaways through solid objects, and locations you have no access to film.
It’s also the better choice when filming would be possible but impractical. Sending a crew to several warehouses, storefronts, and remote sites costs more than building those environments once in 3D, and it gives you complete control over what’s in frame.
Live-action is still stronger when you need real people, real testimony, and real places.
Plenty of our projects combine both.
Use 3D when the thing on screen has to be exactly right. AI video generates something that looks plausible. 3D builds something that is accurate. If your product has real dimensions, a real mechanism, or parts that have to fit together the way they do in life, 3D is the only one of the two that can guarantee it.
3D also wins when you need control and consistency. The same model can be turned, opened, and re-lit across twenty shots and stay identical every time. AI regenerates from scratch on every clip, so details drift: a button moves, a label changes, a colour shifts.
If you want high quality, consistency, and control over your content from start to finish, go with 3D. We do offer both options, so ask us about your product!
